Nicole Longnecker Gallery is a new art space on Gallery Row opening June 1 focusing on contemporary art. We are pleased to announce our inaugural exhibition: Devon Christopher Moore: The Gravity of Time a show of new work by the Houston-based metal artist. The exhibition opens with an artist's reception Saturday, June 1 from 5 to 7pm and will remain on view through July 6, 2013.

 

Louisiana-born Devon Christopher Moore works on plates of steel to convey the idea that simply existing is an action. Surface treatments of organic erosion enable the industrial material to transcend into infinite atmospheric fields. The paintings appear to hover off the walls, defying gravity and time.

 

Combining the sensibilities of art, the fragility of nature and the strength of ferrous materials, Devon Christopher Moore's work evolves the longer you look at it, telling a story of man's impact on the world and the environment.

In familiar territory, painters stretch

 

Floyd Newsum is capping one of the biggest seasons of his 40-year career with this elegant show of recent works. The title seems as loaded with symbolism as his dynamic, primitive-spirited works on paper.

New Washington Museum to Open with Art by Floyd Newsum

 

The art world is all abuzz about the soon-to-be-open Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History and Culture. A piece by Floyd Newsum, an art professor at University of Houston Downtown (this year marks his 40th anniversary as a professor), is part of the Smithsonian's permanent collection and will be on view when the museum opens later this month.
