Being at the Speed of Life
"I create art through precise steel-working methods in the material world united with the metaphysical dimension of beauty. My sculptures bridge our existence in the physical and metaphysical realms, residue of the space between science and spirit. My objective is to achieve a joyous environment sustained by spirit. I invite you to join me there."

Christopher Mayo Mayes
Acid Circus
Christopher Mayo Mayes is an enigmatic Texas artist whose parallel work in graphic design explains his use of symbols and iconography to populate his dense paintings and watercolors. “I am so excited to return Christopher’s work back to the Houston market,” said gallery owner Nicole Longnecker. “His use of fragmented elements, intersecting planes, geometric anomalies mixed with a great sense of humor is really amazing. Don’t be distracted, Christopher is a serious artist who continues to push himself to produce great work.”

Journey Through Blackwood
with Heath Brodie
It was a wonderful afternoon at Blackwood Educational
Land Institute with art by Heath Brodie, a great group of patrons and friends, gourmet food, and acoustic music. The afternoon began with a refreshing beverage and stroll along Blackwood’s nature trail to enjoy seven of Heath's ephemeral sculptural installations. The trail ended at Baleyfield House with an art exhibition and reception featuring cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and music.

Constructed Lore
Casey Arguelles Gregory
Mimi Kato
Mimi Kato and Casey Arguelles Gregory’s divergent media and aesthetics find common ground in their connection to narrative. Constructed Lore features Kato’s large-scale photographs and Gregory’s heavily impastoed canvases. Kato references Japanese woodblock printing with a heavy dose of humor and singular storytelling. Providing a visual contrast are Casey Arguelles Gregory’s colorful paintings, which investigate the structure of myth.

Meditations
Cara Barer
Meditations features the photographs of Cara Barer. "My photographs are primarily a documentation of a physical evolution. I have changed a common object into sculpture in a state of flux. The way we choose to research and find information is also in an evolution. I hope to raise questions about these changes, the ephemeral and fragile nature in which we now obtain knowledge, and the future of books. I am attempting to blur the line between objects, sculpture, and photography."

"The works in this show derive their color not from
surface materials, but from the poignant and powerful messages they convey. Pallor is a unifying aesthetic theme only because the issues they confront are so shaded with controversy. Dave Hickey assessed that we are not a ‘statistical interstices,’ and I interpret that to
mean that we cannot sum up the complex
human experience using simply words.”

Fair Play
October 26 - November 30, 2013
featuring new work by
Albert Alvarez • Jimmy James Canales
Jimmy Castillo • Adriana Corral
Carlos Hernandez • Carlos Don Juan
Juan de dios Mora • Alex Rubio
Postracialism, affirmative action, and immigration reform continue to be major points of contention in the political and social arena. The eight artists represented in Fair Play are a selection of emerging and mid-career Chicano and Mexican artists. They have inherited the social awareness of their forebears, but have realized that the conversation is now much more nuanced.
Their work ranges from traditional painting to performance. These artists occupy the sometimes uncomfortable space represented by a minority that is quickly becoming a majority in Texas.

Jessica Dupuis
Megan Harrison
Erin Stafford
Jade Cooper
Exploring the manifestation of expression in contemporary art. In an age where we focus on life through electronic devices, these artists look to the past to comment on social ideologies. Through deconstruction, transformation, and reinterpretation each artist asks the viewer to participate and continue the narrative by questioning our understanding of the past and how we choose to see it in the present.
The Gravity of Time
June 1 - July 6, 2013
Featuring new work by
Devon Christopher Moore
Moore’s work on plates of steel convey the idea that simply existing is an action. Surface treatments of organic erosion transcend industrial material into infinite atmospheric fields. The paintings appear to hover off the walls, defying gravity and time.
