Adam Nisenson

ARTIST STATEMENT

Having worked in advertising and being the parent of a working child actor, Adam has a unique perspective of our world of commercialism and a daily behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment industry. From these experiences Adam uses misprinted and overages of movie posters, and advertising vinyl, which he deconstructs and weaves into new narratives.

VINYL WEAVE COLLAGE

Commercialism and movies defines our culture and parallels history. They are like a visual time capsule, a great escape from the everyday, so what better two subjects to use to reassemble into a new story?

My current series of art uses misprinted or overages of movie posters and commercial vinyl, which I deconstruct and weave into new narratives. I also like to work with photography and images that are double entendres. I find it entertaining how the same word can have such a different meaning. My style of artwork explodes with color and printed texture and beckons the viewer to search for pieces to the puzzle in order to discover someone’s face, movie title, product, brand or image that creates the unique composition.

I take a lot of additional pride in my artwork because there is truly no acceptable way to deal with PVC waste (vinyl banners/signs). It is basically non-biodegradable and while sitting in landfills, it creates a toxic gas (vinyl chloride) that is especially toxic.
